چکیده

The layered Zintl compound SrZnSb2 is investigated using transmission electron microscopy (TEM) to understand the low lattice thermal conductivity. The material displays out-of-phase boundaries with a spacing from 100 down to 2 nm. Density functional theory calculations confirm that the TEM-derived defect structure is energetically reasonable. The impact of these defects on phonon scattering is analyzed within the Debye–Callaway model, which reveals a significant reduction in the acoustic phonon mean free path. This enhancement in phonon scattering leads to an 30% reduction in lattice thermal conductivity at 300 K. VC 2011 American Institute of Physics. [doi:10.1063/1.3549821]

Transport properties of the layered Zintl compound SrZnSb2

Transport properties of the layered Zintl compound SrZnSb2 have been characterized from room temperature to 725 K on polycrystalline samples. SrZnSb2 samples were found to be p-type with a Hall carrier concentration of 5 1020 cm−3 at room temperature, and a small Seebeck coefficient and electrical resistivity are observed. A single band model predicts that, even with optimal doping, significant...

High thermopower and ultra low thermal conductivity in Cd-based Zintl phase compounds.

By combining first principles density functional theory and electronic as well as lattice Boltzmann transport calculations, we unravel the excellent thermoelectric properties of Zintl phase compounds ACd2Sb2 (where, A = Ca, Ba, Sr). The calculated electronic structures of these compounds show charge carrier pockets and heavy light bands near the band edge, which lead to a large power factor. Fu...

Using the Lattice Boltzmann Method for the numerical study of non-fourier conduction with variable thermal conductivity

The lattice Boltzmann method (LBM) was used to analyze two-dimensional (2D) non-Fourier heat conduction with temperature-dependent thermal conductivity. To this end, the evolution of wave-like temperature distributions in a 2D plate was obtained. The temperature distributions along certain parts of the plate, which was subjected to heat generation and constant thermal conductivity condit...

Using Lattice Boltzmann Method to Investigate the Effects of Porous Media on Heat Transfer from Solid Block inside a Channel

A numerical investigation of forced convection in a channel with hot solid block inside a square porous block mounted on a bottom wall was carried out. The lattice Boltzmann method was applied for numerical simulations. The fluid flow in the porous media was simulated by Brinkman-Forchheimer model. The effects of parameters such as porosity and thermal conductivity ratio over flow pattern and t...

Numerical simulation of a three-layered radiant porous heat exchanger including lattice Boltzmann simulation of fluid flow

This paper deals with the hydrodynamic and thermal analysis of a new type of porous heat exchanger (PHE). This system operates based on energy conversion between gas enthalpy and thermal radiation. The proposed PHE has one high temperature (HT) and two heat recovery (HR1 and HR2) sections. In HT section, the enthalpy of flowing high temperature gas flow that is converted to thermal radiation em...
